After years of planning and hard work, the YMCA staff proudly invites the community to the grand opening of the first new facility of the organization’s capital project, the Stephens Family Gymnastics Center. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be 5:30-7:30 p.m. June 19 at the Bill Bartley Family YMCA, 5001 Bartley Dr.

The event will include a tribute to the late Brenda Stephens. Refreshments will be served as members of the YMCA gymnastics team perform a brief exhibition. After the ceremony, the gym will be open for children to play and explore.

The 15,000-square-foot facility is a modern, spacious gymnastics gym with amenities for youth of all ages. It features two Olympic-size spring floors, four in-ground trampolines, two in-ground tumble trampolines, two foam cube pits, a regulation vault runway, five competition balance beams, two sets of rings and three sets of competition uneven bars. Parents and families can watch all the action from the observation area. There is also a designated area for birthday parties/celebrations. An indoor batting cage for baseball and softball players is in a separate area, but under the same roof.

During the event, all attendees will be entered a drawing for four gift certificates for a month of free gymnastics, gymkata or parkour classes.

“We are delighted to bring this facility to our community as it will allow endless possibilities for kids to explore new skills and develop self-confidence,” Noel Filer, YMCA mission advancement director, said. “We also believe it will open doors for collaboration with community partners. We are deeply grateful to all of our donors, especially the Stephens family, who helped bring this beautiful new facility to life.”

Construction on the capital project will continue with the addition of a double gymnasium, indoor soccer center, early childhood education center and grand entry plaza.
